This week I’m
participating in the “Writing Process World Blog Tour." I was invited to
join by author Krysten Lindsay Hager.
Krysten Lindsay Hager is
an author and book addict who has never met a bookstore she didn’t like. She’s
worked as a journalist and also writes middle grade, YA, humor essays, and
adult fiction. Her debut novel, TRUE COLORS, about friendships, frenemies,
modeling and middle school, was released this summer. You can find her reading
and writing when she’s not catching up on her favorite shows. Find her at: http://www.krystenlindsay.com/.

Here’s a little
about me: I’m a wife, for over 24 years and a mom of five. I write Romance and
Mysteries. My first book, DEATH BY HIGH HEELS, is available from Sweet Cravings
Publishing. I’ve lived in Ohio all but five years of my life. Those five years
were spent in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books were
the first books I loved. I still have quite a collection of them. I can’t get
enough NCIS, The Good Wife, The Walking Dead, Nashville, and Elementary.
As part of the blog hop, all of us are answering the same
four questions about our writing process. So here goes!
1) What am I working on?
I’m currently working on the second book in the Kim Murphy Investigator series. PI Kim Murphy’s staycation is rudely interrupted by a dead body that simply refuses to stay put. Kim’s exciting plans to sleep until noon are shaken when her best friend’s aunt is arrested for murder.

For Kim, helping her friend means ignoring hot cop
boyfriend Grant Tompkins warnings to stay away from his case. Kim is convinced
the real killer’s name is on the list of suspects she’s discovered. Too bad for
Kim, the killer thinks so too. If Kim’s not careful her love life may not be
the only thing taking a permanent vacation
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
I believe Kim has a bit more edge to her and quite the mouth. She’ll do whatever it takes to help a friend.
3) Why do I write what I do?
Mysteries and Romance are the two genres I’ve read the most. I started out writing a mystery. I was a bit surprised but pleased when romance weaved its way in.

4) How does my writing process work?
Many writers listen to music while writing. I am not one of
them. If I like the music I get distracted and start singing along. This isn’t
just bad for my word count but for the whole family. I sound a bit like two
cats yowling. I get most of my writing done in the mornings and late at night.

Here’s an excerpt from DEATH BY HIGH HEELS:
CHAPTER ONE
Cops hate it when you vomit all over their crime scene—a mistake I had
no desire to repeat. Then again, the fact I’d just trampled all over this scene
was probably a whole new mistake I should have avoided. I stared at the corpse
and fought the urge to hurl. If only I hadn’t answered the door, I’d be eating
dinner instead of standing in my neighbor’s apartment looking at a dead guy.
Said dead guy was just sitting there in the chair. You would think he
was asleep—if not for all the blood and guts spilled onto his lap. I tore my
eyes from him and asked the question I most wanted the answer to.
“What the heck did you hit him with?”
Lindsay dropped the strand of blonde hair she’d been twirling and
glanced down at the floor. “My shoe.”
“Huh?”
“I’ve already told you. Twice. I hit him with my shoe.”
“Damn it, Lindsay, you can’t kill someone with a shoe!”
“Hello, they’re Via Spiga.”
